When you dribble, look forward, keeping your head up. If you’ve got your eye on the ball while you’re dribbling, you haven’t mastered it yet. One of the best ways to improve your dribbling is to bring your ball along anytime you need to walk somewhere. Keep dribbling the ball even while you’re doing your errands. Don’t look while dribbling, because you won’t be able to see what’s going on.
If you get possession of the ball a lot, you must learn the crossover technique. A crossover happens when you switch hands the ball is in. You must do it fast for best success. After doing so correctly, a crossover gives you greater control over the court’s flow.
Practice your pass catching often. When practicing, try catching great passes as well as really bad passes. Understand that during a game, you will receive very scattered passes. Some will be good; some won’t. Be a better teammate by anticipating a bad pass to make sure it doesn’t get into the opponents hands.
Zone Defense
Do not practice by playing against the zone defense. Learn how to play a man-to-man defense and a zone defense to get the best understanding of how the game works. If you haven’t trained yourself to counter this, you could lose any control you have over the game.
If you want to take jump shots, don’t spend time pumping iron. Although it’s true that strong muscles are beneficial, additional bulk can impede your ability to play effectively along the perimeter. There have been instances where great shooters bulk up so much that it adversely affects their shooting percentage.
Are you interested in being able to fool the other team? Consider the back pass. To do this pass, hold on to the ball with your dominant hand. The next step is pull the basketball behind the back. Finally, flick your wrist towards the direction in which you wish that ball to travel. You can use this action to deceive your opponents.
If there’s no one around to play with, it is okay to play a basketball game by yourself. Even though basketball is usually played with teams, it is sometimes the case that there just isn’t anyone around to play with. That’s fine. You are able to do a lot with solo games. Practice free throws and work on pivot moves. You can always practice something.
Core Muscles
Your child should work on their core muscles if they want to become a basketball player in high school. That means their hips, lower back and abs. Core muscles are the connectors between arms and legs. If the core muscles are weak, basketball performance will suffer. The stronger your core, the higher you will jump.
When injuries occur on the court, it is unwise to keep on playing. Basketball is physically challenging, and injuries are not uncommon. If you keep on playing after sustaining an injury, you may make the injury even more serious. Anytime you have a serious injury, you should seek medical attention.
You should ask your teammates about your strengths and weaknesses. Are you really good at any one thing? Continue to develop the skills that play into your natural abilities. Find out what others perceive as your natural gifts and build upon those more completely.
