Grow Your Own Organic Garden With These Tips

Gather some ideas for planning your garden, whether it will be for home or commercial use. Figure out what you need beforehand, so you don’t spend money on equipment that isn’t necessary, or impractical seeds for your climate.

Clay Soil

Shoveling clay soil is tiresome since clay is hard, and it can also stick to your shovel for twice the difficulty. Use a thin coat of floor or car wax on your shovel, then buff it with a nice clean cloth to make dealing with clay soil easier. This causes the clay to slide rather than stick, and prevents rust as a side effect.

Choose higher yield plant varieties. Frequently, a hybrid that is able to deal with extreme temperatures will bring higher yields than the more traditional variety of a plant.

Give your flower beds a boost by introducing annuals and biennials. Your flower beds will look different from one season to another. Sunny areas in the middle of shrubs and perennials can be filled in nicely with these plants. There are many flowers you can plant in these gaps. Try marigolds, petunias or sunflowers for a brighter garden.

Ensure you have the proper soil for the plants you have selected. Fertilizer can enrich the soil to make it more viable. It’s also possible to make a fabricated area that contains only one type of soil.

If you want flowers in spring and summer, plant bulbs in the garden. Bulbs are easy to grow and hearty, and they keep growing in years to come. Include a variety of plantings to get a full season of flowers, from early bloomers to late-season varieties.

The approach of fall means you need to start planting autumn goodies. Instead of a clay pot, show some fall spirit by using a hollow pumpkin to plant your lettuce or kale in. Once you’ve cut its top and scooped the insides out, spray the edges and inside with Wilt-Pruf to prevent rotting. Once this is done, you are ready to plant!

Mix the grounds of coffee in soil that has a lot of alkaline. Basically, the grounds resupply the soil with acid. This is one of the most inexpensive ways to achieve this result. The greens and vegetables need the proper balance and will grow bigger and stronger with the right mix.

You could try to boil weeds if you are trying to remain organic. Boiling water is an excellent, organic substance for use against weeds. Pour hot water right on the weeds, but do not get any on your plants. Weed roots will suffer harm from boiling water, and this will probably stop them from growing more.

Place organic mulch as close to your vegetables as you can. Mulch is used to keep extra moisture and provide nutrients for your plants. It will also prevent weeds from growing. You will benefit by not having to spend so much time fighting weed growth.

One particular plant should be the focal point of your garden. A solid focal point will draw peoples attention to your garden, leaving them to admire your unique design. Usually this focal point is a luscious plant that is distinctly different from the plants and scrubs that surround it.

It is essential to keep your knees protected as you garden. Many people find it difficult to bend over for extended periods of time when standing up. To get down to plant level without pain, try kneeling instead. To protect your knees while gardening, you should get a pad to kneel on or at least use a folded up towel.

Cover your flower beds with two or three inches of compost or organic mulch. Mulch will minimize weed growth and maximize nutrients and moisture. What’s more, your garden will look professional all year.

Try to work in your garden at least a short time each day. Not everyone has time to tend their gardens every day, but by doing little things whenever you have a chance, you can avoid having things pile up. Even if you’re just taking the dog for a walk, bend down and pick a few weeds.

Include both green and dry plant refuse in your compost. Green plant mulches include everything from fresh grass clippings, to unwanted vegetables, to recently pulled weeds. The leaves you rake in the fall, straw, sawdust and the like are dry material. Avoid meat, ashes, charcoal, plants with diseases and manure from carnivores.

It only requires some research, lots of outside work, and a large amount of patience. The effort will pay off, and you will see a good reward for your hard work.
