Base Coaches
When you are running bases, pay attention to your base coaches who are giving you signs. Base coaches have the best view of the playing field. Watch them as you round the bases, and try to avoid looking at the ball. Allow them to see for you. If they tell you to stop, just stay at the base you’re on. If they are telling you to go, run full speed ahead.
When in the outfield, stay focused on the batter. A batter who is right handed will often hit the ball toward the left field. Alternatively, a batter who is left handed often hits toward right field. Knowing these mechanics helps you understand where the baseball will head before the pitch heads home.
Your glove can help keep the sun out of your eyes when trying to catch the ball. By lifting up your glove to where your eyes are, you can keep the sun at bay so you can concentrate on where the baseball is going.
Putting the foot on the same side you throw from on the base can help you get more from your stretch. Of course, you must keep one foot (opposite your throwing hand) on the base. Stretch your other foot towards the incoming ball and put your glove into position to catch it.
Do not reach around your body to catch a ground ball. Instead, shuffle quickly so you are able to catch the ball with your gloved hand. Otherwise, when you try to catch the ball, the ball may hit the side of your glove.
